Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How long will my power be off while GVEA clears?
A. It shouldn't be off at all under most circumstances. Clearing is done under and near the lines while they are still energized.

Q. How much does GVEA cut?
A. Most right-of-way easements are 30 feet wide for power lines built with poles with cross-arms, or horizontal construction, or vertical construction. We normally cut all brush to the ground.

Q. What is done with the brush that is cut by hand?
A. The brush is usually stacked along the sides of the right-of-way. It is up to the owners to remove the brush if they wish to.

Q. How will I know when GVEA will be clearing in my neighborhood?
A. We try to notify people at least a week, and sometimes as early as a couple of months, before beginning work. Much of our notification is done early in the spring before cutting actually takes place. Our reclearing season typically begins mid-April.

Q. I have a tree that I think is a danger to the power line. What should I do?
A. Call GVEA at 458-5717 and our arborist will look at it for you. If we determine that it is a hazard to our equipment, we will cut it.
